PRESS RELEASE

Today, Over 250 Indonesian and Ethiopian Students Chat Together

On this afternoon (Saturday, 26/6), more than 250 Indonesian and Ethiopian students chatted together through the 2nd Indonesia-Ethiopia Student Correspondence Program (IESCOP). They will meet face to face virtually to get acquainted and talk about themselves, their families and their respective countries.

IESCOP, which was initiated and organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Addis Ababa, was first launched on April 8, 2021 by the Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Al Busyra Basnur, together with the Director General of Asian and Oceanic Affairs of the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Molalign Asfaw.

“IESCOP aims to build new relationships and friendships between students from an early age, namely Indonesian and Ethiopian elementary and junior high school students. The friendship between students between nations, in time, will provide great benefits for relations between the two countries, and the diplomacy of the two countries in global forums," said Ambassador Al Busyra, author of the book Public Diplomacy.

Ambassador Al Busyra, who twice participated in the Indonesia-Canada youth exchange program, further said that he really felt the benefits of making friends with students and world youth.

"Friendship between nations is very important for Indonesian students and young generations in the future, especially seeing the development, progress and role of Indonesia in regional and international diplomacy," added Ambassador Al Busyra.

The virtual meeting of students from the two countries starts at 14.00 WIB or 10.00 Ethiopian time and is open to the public. Considering that students are under the age of 18, they must be accompanied by a teacher and/or parents. **
