Ethiopian Elementary and Junior High Students Want to Visit and Study in Indonesia

Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti and the African Union, Al Busyra Basnur, met with the participants of the Indonesia-Ethiopia Student Correspondence Program (IESCOP) at Wisdom Educational Academy, which is located in the town of Adama, 100 km south of Addis Ababa, on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

Ambassador Al Busyra explained that Ethiopian elementary and junior high school students have hugeinterest to know and to visit Indonesia and even to get scholarships from Indonesia. These students also want to build friendships with their peers in Indonesia. Therefore, teachers and parents need to play role in encouraging the friendship among them.

IESCOP is one of the strategic programs of the Indonesian Embassy in Addis Ababa which was launched by Ambassador Al Busyra Basnur together with MolalignAsfaw, the Director General of Asian and Oceania Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia on April 8, 2021 at the Indonesian Embassy in Addis Ababa.

"IESCOP aims to foster friendship between elementary and junior high school students of the two countries through correspondence. The participants are accompanied by their teachers and / or parents considering their age is under 18 years old,” said Al Busyra.

"They are the generation who will become the future leaders of their nations. Therefore, friendship between the leaders of the nations in the world must start from an early age. Through correspondence, students not only get acquainted, they also share stories about daily life and their respective countries," added Al Busyra.


At the launched of the IESCOP, there were 71 registered participants, 49 from Indonesia and 22 from Ethiopia. This number continues to grow because it still open to the public. Students from both countries can join as participants through the IESCOP Facebook group.


During the visit to Adama, Ambassador Al Busyra Basnurwas welcomed by school leaders and teachers and held a meeting with students. Al Busyra also handed over Certificate of Appreciation to IESCOP participants who came at the launch.
